The Madison of Washington, DC

The Madison is a network of professional young women in the greater DC area who excel at a broad range of careers and seek to enhance themselves through relationships both inside and outside of the organization. Each year, the Madison focuses on community involvement to one philanthropic cause in the greater DC area. The members of the Madison strive to improve themselves and the community through building relationships and supporting local and national charities. Our name was chosen to honor a woman of historical magnitude who serves as an inspiration for innovative protocol. Dolley Madison, the wife of James Madison and the most important First Lady of the 19th Century, became a legendary heroine in her own time. Not only is she remembered for her outgoing, warm nature, but she has left a legacy in American history as the nation's premier hostess.

Non-profit by charter, the Madison is comprised of college-educated women who sponsor and raise funds each year for a designated charity. The charity is chosen by a vote of the entire membership at the annual meeting. The organization has selected Susan G. Komen for our 2008 charity.  The members also volunteer with local arts organizations, medical facilities, and other philanthropic groups.

The membership of the Madison remains at 100 young, professional women from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and is devoted to improving both the local and national community through the support of various charitable projects. Our members hail from all over the country and hold diverse positions in the professional world. From White House staff and Congressional aides, to stockbrokers and lawyers, The Madison fosters a unique networking opportunity for women in many different careers. Membership is offered once annually at the invitation of the Board of Directors.
